Statistics Botswana conducts quarterly economic surveys to produce Statistics on:
i. Formal Employment
ii. National Accounts
iii. Industrial production
iv. ICT usage
The surveys to produce economic statistics and indicators used independent questionnaires sent to selected enterprises and establishments. This resulted in instances where some establishments received all the four questionnaires, in some instances with repeating variables.
The result was that the establishments/respondents developed “respondent fatigue” leading to high instances of non-response.
Statistics Botswana has now minimized the number of questionnaires to be sent to enterprises and establishments by combining the four questionnaires into one statistical consolidated questionnaire. This resulted in reduction of variables to be filled in by enterprises and establishments, thereby lessening their response burden.
The new statistical consolidated questionnaire seeks to achieve two main goals:
i. Reduction of respondent’s burden and fatigue
ii. Increasing response rates
