Following the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 06 August 2018 between Statistics Botswana (SB) and Ministry of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development (MELSD), Statistician General Dr Burton Mguni met with MELSD Permanent Secretary Ms. Pearl Ramokoka on the 17th October 2018 to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration with the ministry, monitor the implementation of the MoU, and to strengthen employment data and other statistical indicators.
By signing the MoU in August both organization aimed to strengthen cooperation mainly in the areas of:
• Collaborating in the innovative data processing, dissemination and statistical capacity building;
• Vital operations such as business data collection including expenditure, income and employment data which are used for statistical operations and compilation;
• Production and provision of timely, accurate, and relevant Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development and other Ministry statistics that are vital for the nation’s policy formulation, evidence based decision making, monitoring and evaluation; and
• The general improvement of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development sector statistics plans or strategies
